NHL Grid - daily hockey criteria grid puzzle
NHL Grid is a free daily 3x3 puzzle for hockey fans, in the spirit of Wordle and Immaculate Grid. Each cell sits at the crossing of a row and a column criterion - name a NHL player who matches both to fill it. You get nine guesses to fill nine cells.
Criteria mix franchises, nationalities, stats and career achievements, so every cell is a small trivia question of its own. A guess only counts against you when you commit it to a cell, and each player can only be used once per grid.
Beyond simply completing the grid, every correct pick has a rarity score based on how many other players chose the same player. Obvious answers are safe; deep cuts push your uniqueness score up - the braggable number on the share card.
The answer pool is drawn from current NHL rosters and recent all-stars. A new grid is published every day, and finishing it keeps your Sportdle daily streak alive alongside the other NHL modes.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I play NHL Grid?
- Pick any cell, then search for a NHL player who matches both that cell's row and column criterion. A correct pick fills the cell; a wrong pick costs one of your nine guesses. Fill all nine cells to complete the grid.
- Can the same player be used in two cells?
- No - each player can only be used once per grid, even if they'd fit several cells. Part of the puzzle is deciding where a versatile player is most valuable.
- What does the rarity score mean?
- Each correct answer shows how often other players picked the same player for that cell. Rarer picks raise your uniqueness score, so two players can both finish the grid but walk away with very different scores.
- Is NHL Grid like Immaculate Grid?
- It follows the same criteria-grid idea: nine cells, each needing a player who matches a row and a column. Sportdle's version covers the NHL with its own criteria and daily rotation, and it shares a streak with the rest of Sportdle's modes.
- Is NHL Grid like Wordle?
- It uses the same idea as Wordle - a once-a-day puzzle with green/red feedback on each guess - but instead of guessing a word you guess a NHL player from clues.
